Q:
What is Taekwondo?
A:
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art turned sport that has grown as a global sport since the foundation
of the World Taekwondo Federation in 1973. The exercise of Taekwondo will develop strength and flexibility of the
body, develop patience, concentration, attention to detail, develop quick reflexes, spirit and humility. Meditation
will develop inner awareness and confidence. Only by balancing these can you reach the true meaning of Taekwondo.
The study of technique is not the task of one day, or of one year. It is rather the path of a life time.
Q:
Who can practice Taekwondo?
A:
Just about everyone--children, teens, and adults. We also have several families who
train together. Master Steinhauser recommends that children should be at least 5 years old to start.
Q:
I have a previous injury/medical condition. Can I still train?
A:
Definitely. Taekwondo can be very strenuous, but you can take it at your own pace, as much as
your injury would allow.
Q:
How do I sign up?
A:
Call SOCATKDA at (562) 424-5087 or
email Master Steinhauser
for more information.
Q:
Where can I buy my uniform, and how much is it?
A:
You can purchase the uniform with our school patch when you sign up with Master Steinhauser. They are
$35.00 for size 000-3, and $40.00 for size 4-7. Master Steinhauser will help you figure out the size then.
Q:
What is the fee for the class?
A:
$55.00 per month, to Master Steinhauser. (Ask Master Steinhauser about family discount). There is also
a fee for your tests depending on your belt rank, starting at $15.
Q:
Tests? What tests?
A:
In order to progress in rank, you will be tested on the skills you've learned in class. Testing takes
place every 3 months. Black Belt test is held once a year in June. Attendance requirement for White, Yellow, and Green
Belts is at least 20 class meetings in each three month period between tests; for Red Belts is at least 40 class meetings
in six month period. If you don't know if you have enough attendance days or whether or not you should test, please
see Master Steinhauser.
Q:
What do I need to know for those tests?
A:
Everything you need for the test, you've learned and practiced in class. If you have questions about
what you need to know, ask a Senior or Master Steinhauser. Don't hesitate to ask any Senior to go over things with
you before or after class.
Q:
I have so much homework today. I'm afraid I'm going to miss training. Help!
A:
Fear not! The homework table is always set up for your studying pleasure. Master Steinhauser
requires everyone to finish their homework before training. So if you couldn't finish at home, put on your uniform,
and bring the homework to class. Once you finish your studying, you can jump in and train. If you need help with
your homework, you can ask the Seniors. (Parents: We have several highly qualified people to help the kids with
their school work...from teacher, engineer, to Ph. D. scholar!)
Q:
Who do I talk to if I have questions about the class?
A:
Master Steinhauser is the person to go to.
Our black belt instructors like Ms. Mitchell,
Ms. Fallaha, and
Mr. Trent Steinhauser can also help.
